Yep. That's our mess. See what I mean? Yuck. Cluttered, dingy, messy. Looking at these pictures, I feel HORRIBLY embarrassed. Just not embarrassed enough to decide against sharing my messiness. Ugh. Well, on to the next... Oh, and if you're one of those that noticed all the mess on the kitchen counters, you aren't welcome in my home. Not really, but stay tuned... that's next!
Though I'm not big on decorating, nor have I ever been - I still consider myself to be a lover of neutrals - it's actually how I describe myself on my Pinterest account. And it's true. The only thing I love more than neutrals would be traditional decor in neutral colors. I know this because all of my pins on Pinterest look just alike. I decided I'd mix it up a bit instead and add a lil' color. I have no desire to make my house a Rubik's cube - around every corner and turn, a bright color. Only my laundry room.
Because the laundry room is off my kitchen, we tend to keep the door shut to keep this noise down. I don't love hearing the washing machine and dryer going while I'm eating... nor is my infant son fond of the buzz that signals the end of the cycle in my washing machine. So the simple fact that my vision for my tiny laundry room matched absolutely nothing else in my house was simply not a deterrent - you wouldn't see much of it, anyway. I approached my husband with the idea, certain he would laugh it off and give me a "No way!" He didn't. He bargained with me. The deal was I would clean and organize the laundry room and he would paint it any color, within reason, that I wanted. You know it's messy when the hubs is willing to paint a room just to get me to organize it. Cha-Ching! I was thrilled to hear those words on his lips, but I wasn't sure the color would be "within reason" to him. It was a long shot, but I fessed up that I wanted a blue laundry room. Not a baby blue, not a sky blue, and certainly not a neutral gray-blue. I wanted a royal blue laundry room. He agreed. He REALLY agreed. What?!
My kitchen cabinets are white. Not a beautiful bright, clean white, but a former-owner-DIY-shabby-chic-project-gone-awry kind of white. Gross. They have certainly seen better days Another project! I mention my kitchen cabinets because the cabinet in my laundry room is also white, but not the former-owner-DIY-shabby-chic-project-gone-awry kind of white. It's actually a bright, clean white. Thanks to Pinterest, I found cute wall decor to add to my freshly painted, royal blue walls. I'll post the uber-simple tutorial on this a little later. I used accents of metallic silver for contrast. I spray painted my light and outlet covers, my wall mount for my broom and mop, as well as the white hanging rack for the clean laundry with Krylon's Brilliant Metallic Silver spray paint.
This is the end result, well almost. I still need a rug and some sort of window treatment. I'll get there - I'm a novice, remember? I'm sure there will be an update once the items are purchased.
This is kind of a big deal. I finished something I started AND I can actually find everything. My cats don't know what to think not having to climb over laundry piles to get to their food bowls. Bless them.
